Research and Technology Meeting with University of Malaya

MRDC paid a courtesy visit to the University of Malaya (UM) in July 2023 to explore potential avenues of collaboration in the field of railway research and technologies. The visit was an important step in establishing a partnership that could lead to significant advancements in the railway industry. The primary objective of the visit was to introduce MRDC to the UM and establish connections with key stakeholders, including faculty members, researchers, and administrators, who are actively engaged in railway-related research and projects. Another key goal was to identify areas of common interest between MRDC and the UM in the realm of railway research and technologies. This exploration aimed to uncover shared research objectives and opportunities for collaboration. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss potential collaboration modalities, such as joint research projects, knowledge exchange programs, student internships, and the sharing of research and testing facilities. Defining these modalities was essential for laying the groundwork for future collaboration.

During the courtesy visit, several important discussions and interactions took place. Both parties engaged in discussions regarding areas of mutual interest in railway research and technologies. Topics included industry-oriented projects, research on signalling and communication system, maintenance system, data analytics, first and last mile connectivity, and rail construction materials; all of which to comply with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). These discussions highlighted shared research objectives. There was an open dialogue about potential collaboration modalities. Both MRDC and UM expressed a strong interest in developing collaborative projects, engaging in joint research efforts, and supporting student involvement in railway research.
